A network switch links devices in a network to each other (such as computers, printers, wireless access points) and enables them to “chat” by exchanging data packets. As well as software-based virtual machines, switches may be hardware devices that control physical networks. This is helpful for the new normal as it allows communication between various network devices, as multiple data cables are plugged into a switch.
